Susanna Roca, member of the Spanish Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SEQC) and Formulator in Bella Aurora Labs, states that “the appearance of spots on the skin is an increasingly more frequent concern in women of all ages. In Spain, 1.5 million women consume anti-dark spots creams, 54% more than in 2010” and that is why “many companies and brands in the cosmetic sector have decided to add anti-dark spots products to their lines”.
With over 10 years’ experience in the study of skin spots, Susanna Roca warns of the need to prevent while treating existing spots.
“Skin pigmentation problems surface when we notice a spot on our face. We need to treat existing spots and protect the skin against new ones”.
“It’s very important to understand the formation process of a spot: When UV radiation hits our skin, our skin defends itself by generating melanin. Melanin produced migrates to the surface of the epidermis and, due to a dysfunction of the body, once it evenly spreads out, it concentrates in one area, creating a dark spot”, explains Susanna Roca.
Most spots are caused by the sun. Others emerge because they are dormant in our genes, or in other words are hereditary, and others appear with age.
Susanna Roca will teach us about the different types of spots:
Melasma are brown spots that appear mainly in women over 30 years of age. They are caused by the sun but can worsen with hormonal changes during pregnancy or when taking birth control. Moles and freckles are accumulations of pigment in localised areas. Normally they are genetic but sun exposure can make them increase in number over the years. Liver spots are spots that appear with age. In addition to having a genetic component, they also have an accumulation of a protein called lipofuscin. However, like all spots, with the passage of time and if we don’t protect ourselves from the sun, they will appear in greater numbers
The 7 depigmenting mechanisms of dark spots
Bella Aurora laboratories are the only ones that have detected the 7 mechanisms of the formation process of dark spots. Therefore, its products contain carefully selected ingredients to act on each one of these mechanisms and achieve the depigmenting of melanin and lipofuscin spots and their prevention.
Preventing, treating and eliminating skin spots, yes we can!
